Quotations
The quotations below represent the opinions of respondents to the firm survey. These individuals are unrelated to InsideArch. Their opinions are based on their individual experiences and in no way reflect or represent the views of InsideArch or its employees. Other opinions, including contrary opinions, may exist.

"This is a firm that is growing & shifting ownership. The focus tends to be more on money than on product."

"The best position at this firm is the Project Architect because they get to do all the work, not literally but they get to do design from schematic to development. They plan the work and they get to follow through assigned projects through construction documents, bidding and contract administration. The PA sees it all and has great Sr. Designers and Principals to support all of their work. PA may be a hard job because of all the work but working with professional teams the upper management and team architects can be very fulfilling."

"This firm is growing rapidly and eager to expand its employee base, as well as its breadth of work beyond just residential. The majority of the employees are fairly young, new architects, so there is plenty of room for growth."

"Mostly Residential & Planned Development projects. Single family, Town home, Loft & Condo. They seek direction from the client and respond directly. Nothing out of the box."

"The firm does good work. It's for developers and can be exciting if it wasn't always being value engineered! The attitude is get the work done right and get it done well. This applies to design and technical aspects."

"The firm does mostly multi-family or single family residential developments. It is looking to expand its expertise beyond that project type to include types such as mixed-use, dorms, hospitality, and commercial."

"On Higher role levels - yes. Principals and Designers and managers attend conferences & all staff advances. If you are a young architect or Intern then you will not see too much development beyond what they offer in-house."

"This firm actively teaches those that want to learn. Showing interest and desire to know more will give you the opportunity to learn it. Push the Principals and they will teach you anything you want to know!"

"Yes, the firm provides things like professional development groups, ARE study materials, lunch and learns, certification classes, site visits, and periodical performance reviews so there is always a communication about where people stand in their profession."

"Person by person basis: some people are really great teachers and offer their time and experience. Many others are self - focused and appear to be oblivious to anyone else's situation and need for help. Finding the few helpers is survival for Interns."

"The people at this firm all work together to bring out the best in each other. The interns get to focus completely on their architectural career and get opportunities that they would wait many years for at other firms of this size."

"The firm is organized into project teams and most people are working on anywhere from one to five projects at a time. The atmosphere is very cooperative and ideas are constantly being bounced around and checked with colleagues."

"9 hours/day is required, most work 10. The work is traditional. Most of the time I felt frustrated and ignored of any ideas. In return, you do enough work to not arise any complaints against yourself. The people are great, the atmosphere isn't."

"What clock, time flies with all of the great work that gets done each day. Each day presents new challenges, either a new project or a new problem to be solved on the current project. Most project teams stay together for the duration of a project, from Schematic Design through CD's which means we are always making it better or fixing something because of code, engineer coordination or client request."

"The majority of the employees at the firm are fairly young, so the energy is very high. However, everyone is very aware and responsible for their tasks and commitment to their team. The workday is sort of atypical (at 9 hours with a half hour lunch) and people often work overtime. They are some of the hardest workers and know they have to do their part to get the work done. However, it does not feel like grueling, endless work. They work hard and play hard too."

"Very present Hierarchy system. Management is a huge political issue. Mid managers do not have much say, maybe minor situations. The way the firm is organized is problematic. Managers do not know their employee's skills. It is easy to be type cast, only because you have done it before. This prevents growth and experience in other areas."

"We seldom speak up because we fear they won't hear us, but when we actually do speak up they listen, consider our opinions and may make a change. Change occurs, sometimes its quick and sometimes it glacial."
